web directory Storing files

Aug 11, 2012 by mike231
Hi all

I am thinking of storing  a private folder on my web server after setting chmod for the folder . Is it safe to do this? I am thinking to make the folder accessible by me only by logging via ftp/sftp. Can someone please advise me?

If you want to browse to your files, then download them,  then use a  password protected directory. But if you just want to only store them you can put them in the root directory and set the permissions so that you are the only one who can access it.

If your host gets hacked, then he files are no longer private even if you set permissions. I advice you to store your files on your local machine or maybe  use an external hard desk
