Shared Hosting and security ?

asked Sep 1, 2013 in Shared Hosting by GeekNew (720 points)
Hello all
I have been using shared hosting for years and now I am starting to wonder if shared security is really secure for my website. Is it possible for others on the same server to access my code ?  I would like to see some thoughts on this issue
Many thanks in advanced

A good control panel like cPanel  makes users  jailed in their own home directory. This prevents others on the same shared server from reaching your files unless your files are placed in the www public_html directory.

In general it is safe, however the security  level of shared hosting  depends on the configuration and deployment of  the hosting provider and how strict the standards of security of service department  are.

Each user account has its file separated and isolated from others. The security of any Shared hosting provider depends on the following

1.Plugins and software the shared hosting providers uses for isolating accounts
2.Kind of websites the shared hosting provider allows
3.Regular and scheduled scans and checks
4. latest update, patches and issues  technical Newletters .
