Restore VPS backup to a new VPS

Apr 14, 2012 by dolphin111
Hi all

I have and old VPS and  I just got a new VPS.

Now, I need to restore my old VPS to the new VPS that I just got. I used solusVM for backing up my old VPS and it’s now placed in http://mydomain.com/beackup.tar
and I already have cPanel installed on my new VPS. The question is how can I restore my old VPS to my new one? Can anyone tell me how to do it?

appreciate your support

hi there,

ok, this should work because I've done it a couple of times and it never failed.

boot a vps with the same os and rsync the following directories back as root:

/bin
/etc
/home
/lib
/root
/sbin
/usr
/var

then reboot.
don't just rsync / because you should not mess with the /dev and /proc directories etc.
for  example a  restore command for your /home directory would be
rsync -avp --progress --delete --numeric-ids /vpsbackup/home/ root@myvps.com:/home/
(assuming  your backup is in /vpsbackup)
