Migrating to a new cPanel server

Nov 23, 2013 by doner
Hi all
I want to migrate from my current VPS to another new VPS with the same provider. I am currently on CentOS 5.1 and want to migrate to another VPS with CentOS 6.4
This is how I plan to do it and just wanted some opinions before I go ahead with it to avoid any problems

1. WHM -> Backup
2. Move my backups to my new server
3. Go to WHM and Restore the backups after the transfer

can anyone please tell me what you think?

I would suggest you set up your new server with a different IP addresses. This will enable you to get a cPanel trial that you can use to transfer the accounts to your new server. To do the transfer you can follow the instruction http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/view/AllDocumentation/WHMDocs/CopyMultiple

when the account is transferred add your original IP to your new server. To convert the accounts back to the original use the IP Migration Wizard

your VPS provider might take care of the license assignments. Check with them before you do anything
as for the backup, you can transfer the accounts using the option "Copy Multiple Accounts/Packages from Another Server"
but if you just want to take a backup use this command
/usr/local/cpanel/bin/backup --force
