Joomla permission error

Jan 18, 2013 by jomnew
Hi all..
I am using Joomla 2.5.6 for my website. When I try to add a new article under content  from the top menu, I get the error : "You don't have permission to access/administrator/index.php on this server”
But if I select an existing article's check box, and select 'edit' I can edit the article normally. I can also open a new article using the right menu in the article manager page without any issues.
Does anyone why is this happening and how to fix it?

This is clearly a mistake in the permissions you given to your Joomla folder. There should not be any restrictions in the .htaccess file and the folders should be given  permission 755

this could also be a problem in your .htaccess file. If you have a backup with the file, you can delete the current one and restore a previously backed up .htaccess file.
