Joomla 3.0 Install Error 500

Feb 24, 2013 by jomnew
I tried to install Joomla 3.0 and during the installation process I got Error 500 internal server error. I tried replacing and renaming my htaccess file, but that didn’t work.

Anyone knows how to fix to this?

This is a file permission problem.  The default file permission on the files in the installation. If you have SSH access, run the following commands in your Joomla 3 directory, to edit the directory and file permissions.

Change or dirs to 755: find . -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
Change all files to 644: find . -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \

Unzip the files locally, and then zip those files and folders and upload the new zip file to your server and unpack it there
