I recently started  learning how to do things with HTML5 elements and layout. Then I checked  this website CanIUse.com for browser  usage statistics, and now I am thinking maybe I should just stick with XHTML until HTML5 is more popular on most browsers. Would do you guys think? I’d appreciate any feedback on this

The web is moving fast towards html5; so depending  on what you are developing for. If you want your site to be seen by everyone using any type of browsers then you might want to use  HTML4.01 strict markup until HTML5 is fully compatible.

I would say go with HTML5. It’s a great web developing language and has new features that can make any programmer’s  life easier.

Another vote for HTML5 ... every day more and more sites are becoming compliant, and yes all the major web browsers (Safari/Firefox/Chrome/IE9+) support it just fine now!
