How to point a subdomain to another server?

Mar 6, 2012 by merry1

I have a domain name say www.abc.com hosted on a server say "Server1"

I have created a subdomain for that domain say http://chat.abc.com

Now, what I want is, I want to host chat.abc.com to another server say "Server2", which means chat.abc.com should point to another Server2 instead of Server1.

Please tell me the steps to do this (changing DNS records etc).

I will be highly greateful to you. Please?

Thank you so much in advance.

Where is your DNS server?
Do you manege DNS server for your domain name?

Well, it is not so difficult to point to another server.
You need to add "A record" on zone file of your domain name.

If you don't mange DNS server,
you may ask to DNS manager to add A record for new sub-domain.

The only thing you need if you wish to host your chat.abc.com subdomain with another hosting provider, simply set A record for "chat" pointing to IP of another hosting services provider.

If you're able to manage your DNS, then you can set it by yourself and it will look like:

chat IN A Server-2-IP-address
