How to Move a Joomla Site to the Root directory

Nov 20, 2012 by Karen
Hi all..

I installed Joomla in a test directory because I wanted to make sure first that it’s working properly before I move it to the root directory of my website. Now that I am done testing it I want to move it to the root directory. Can anyone please let me know what is the most accurate way to move my Joomla site to the root directory?
Thanks in advanced

1.Using an FTP program move your files from where they are currently installed to the directory "public_html". To do this you need to drag the files from your test directory to your root directory inside your FTP program.
2.Open the configuration.php file using  Notepad or iyour FTP program. You will find this file in the root directory.
3.Edit the following lines

From:  "var $log_path = '/home/user/public_html/JoomlaInstalledDir/logs';"
To: "var $log_path = '/home/user/public_html/logs';"
From:  "var $tmp_path = '/home/user/public_html/ JoomlaInstalledDir /tmp';"
To: "var $tmp_path = '/home/user/public_html/tmp';"
From:  "var $ftp_root = '/public_html/ JoomlaInstalledDir ';"
To:  "var $ftp_root = '/public_html';"
From:  "var $live_site = 'http://www.mydomain.com/ JoomlaInstalledDir ';"
To "var $live_site = 'http://www.Mydomain.com';"

4.Save the "configuration.php"  file and overwrite it in your FTP program.
