Green Hosting

Hi there,

can anyone tell me what is green hosting and how is it different than the normal hosting?

It's hosting that keeps in mind environmental issues by using technologies that reduce the emission of co2.

Yes, I agree. It doesn't necessary mean that the host provider has solar or wind powered datacenter - it could be also the engineering of the HVAC system to use outside colder air to cool down the servers, rather than have AC on full power.

Hi Sarah,

Hosting providers datacenters consume a huge amount of energy to keep the servers up and online.They also consume a lot of energy to keep the electronics cool and for the backup etc.. Green hosting is moving to an alternative way and using methods and technologies to reduce CO2 emissions, such as wind generators, cloud hosting to reduce server idle resources, solar panels, etc..
