Do I need to buy SSL certificate

asked Apr 13, 2012 in SSL by doner
Hi there

I have a website which is basically made to collect donations. It’s a non profit website for a non profit organization. We ask our users to enter a few information about themselves such as names, emails, etc.. and we use paypal as our mediator for payments. Do we need to get a SSL certificate for this kind of website?

Yes you should get an ssl certificate. A certificate encrypts the private data of the users. So even if you are using paypal as a mediator, you should get a certificate.

I recommend that you do get an SSL, they are not expensive and it’s always a good practice to keep your users information secure.

If you are using paypal for your financial process then financially you are safe. You would only need to get an SSL if the information your site holds and collects is sensitive, otherwise you should be ok without a SSL certificate
