cPanel SpamAssassin error

asked Aug 10, 2012 in General by TheRock (920 points)
My server received a high number of emails around the same time, and as a result my spam assassin service crashed and I got the following error in my error log:
"spam failed @ Tue Aug 10 04:52:12 2012. A restart was attempted automatically."
I would appreciate any help to resolve this issue.
Many thanks

This is caused by the number of processes that Spam Assassin was  running. To fix this install the ‘Spam Assassin’ plugin for cPanel and modify the number of processes that are allowed to run.

To modify the number of processes that could be ran from Spam Assasins do the following:.
1.Go to Https:// to log into your WHM panel.
2.After logging in, navigate to the "Manage Plugins" link.
3.locate the " Spamdconf" plugin  in cPanel. If you do not have it installed, you should find it on the list, install it.
4.By default it is not installed, but it will be listed. If you have already had our
5.Go back  to the WHM home screen. Then go to "Setup Spamd Startup Configuration" plugin and click on it.
6.Go to "SpamD Startup Configuration".  From here you can edit the maximum number of Spam Assasin processes, the maximum number of connections per children and  you can  also restrict connections per IP to Spam Assassin. You should  modify the Maximum Children value and making it lower to help save the server resources. Put 5-6 for baseline configuration. You should then  increase the number of processes allowed as required.
