100% Uptime - Is that really possible?

asked Mar 23, 2012 in General by SaraSX (2,770 points)
Hi guys,

A lot of web hosting providers are advertising that they have %100% or 99.99% up time. Is that really true or is it just advertizement tricks?

Hi Sara,

100% Uptime? I don't think so, 99.9% perhaps true, the 00.1% is the scheduled downtime.

They may be referring to the fact that they guarantee there services will not fail and not go offline for anything other than scheduled downtime, so if it's saying 100% Uptime, they're guaranteeing that your site will not go offline for any reason, other than the schedule maintenance downtime, if they were to include that in the uptime, it would probably be somewhere around 90 - 95% up time.
